Insulation comes in several different types. Each type is designed for a specific purpose. Air-Tite offers each type of insulation as a solution to fit your needs, depending on the project that you are working on. Which is right for you? Please click on the insulation type below to find out more about it.
(Up to a true 2x4" R-15) This process uses a mesh netting that is stapled to the studs of a wall, and then each netted bay is filled with blown-in fiberglass insulation. Fiberglass can also be used in drill and fill applications.
(R-11 to R-38) Fiberglass batting insulation is used for exterior walls, interior walls, and ceiling batts. Air-Tite uses Owens corning fiberglass batts, which meet all building codes and can vary in r-values depending on the application type. These batts are used for not only energy efficiency, but also for sound proofing interior walls of a home as well. Applegate Stabalized Cellulose
Cellulose is used for open blow applications and can also be blown into walls dry or onto walls using a wet application process. For existing houses cellulose is blown into walls by drilling a hole in each individual bay and then filling that bay with dry cellulose insulation. New construction applications of cellulose insulation use water and mix it with the cellulose. The mixture is blown it into each open bay and then any excess material on the wall and studs is scraped off. The excess material is vacuumed up and reused on the rest of the walls in the home. The material then is left uncovered so it can dry and stabilize and then dry walled over.
Air-Tite is a licensed dealer of Icynene Foam insulation! (Click on the Logo for Icynene's Site) Icynene® spray foam insulation creates a superior air-seal, effectively minimizing air leakage to deliver advanced moisture control, healthy air, and energy savings of up to 50%.
As an air barrier, Icynene® minimizes the intrusion of outdoor allergens, odors and pollutants and works with proper mechanical ventilation to let occupants control the quality of air they breathe.
Icynene® is 100% water-blown and does not produce harmful emissions that can compromise indoor air quality and diminish the insulation's rated R-value. Global Warming and Ozone Depletion When used in place of air-permeable insulation, Icynene® spray foam insulation can reduce home heating and cooling costs by up to 50% and lead to a reduction in CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions. With the average North American home emitting approximately 10 tonnes of greenhouse gas per year 1 – primarily due to heating and cooling; using Icynene® can make a significant difference to the environment! Completely HFC-free, Icynene® is 100% water-blown foam insulation; water being a non-ozone depleting substance (ODS) that does not contribute to global warming. The other blowing agent commonly used by foam insulation manufacturers is HFC 245fa 2. HFC’s are referred to by the Environmental Protection Agency as High Global Warming Potential gases. HFC 245fa has a global warming potential of 950 3, which means it has 950 times the global warming potential (GWP) of carbon dioxide. The insulating foam sector is expected to become one of the largest HFC growth areas and is predicted to become the second largest source of HFC emissions4. Icynene believes that being a good corporate neighbor and a responsible steward of the world’s resources means providing innovative solutions that help address issues such as global warming. As the #1 manufacturer of open-cell foam insulation for the North American construction market, Icynene is leading the insulation industry to a new level of sustainability through its commitment to environmentally-preferred, spray foam technology that is HFC-free. 1. American Public Transport Association – September 2007 - http://www.apta.com/research/info/online/climate_change.cfm#cc17 Human Health Effects of PBDEs Recently reported on CBS News, Toxicologists from the EPA are concerned about PBDEs (Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers), a commonly used fire retardant. PBDEs have been linked to serious health problems such as birth defects, hormone deficiencies, learning disabilities and neurological disorders. Several states (including Washington, California and Maine) have issued legislation regulating and, in some cases, banning PBDEs. It is expected that other states will soon follow suit. PBDEs are already banned in Europe. Icynene® spray foam insulation is, and has always been, PBDE-free. Furthermore, it meets the requirements of a Class 1 fire-rated product without the need for this chemical.
